OUR COMPANY

Founded in 2016 by Purna Kharel, an entrepreneur with a vision of transforming the power industry, K&A Engineering has become one of the fastest growing engineering firms in the country.   

Beginning at the age of nine and over 7000 miles away in a rural town near Kathmandu, Nepal, Purna dreamed of creating his own business. He also knew that gaining proper education and experience was essential to realizing his objective.  

After receiving his undergraduate degree from a reputable engineering school in Nepal and his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University, he started working toward his vision of establishing K&A Engineering Consulting P.C. beginning with only one client and one employee: himself.   6 years later, K&A’s experience includes all aspects of electric power generation, substation, transmission, distribution, energy efficiency, and distributed energy resource (DER) projects, from planning, environmental, and regulatory analyses through engineering & design, construction, program management, and commissioning.   

K&A has gained deep roots in the Power Generation and T&D sectors with the average employee having 20 years or more of experience. Because of these strong foundations, K&A has been able to attract top-tier talent and quickly evolve into a multi-discipline full-service Engineering & PMO company offering professional services throughout the US and internationally.  

K&A works with a diverse range of clients, including utilities, contractors, and renewable energy developers. We create customized solutions leveraging best practices and experience to solve the vast array of our client's challenges. Since we are involved with projects ranging from conceptual and permitting through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and testing, our engineers account for cost, schedule, and constructability in their work product. By incorporating all the above into our engineering and design, we feel K&A provides an essential value-added service that benefits all parties involved.

K&A Engineering, founded in 2016 by Purna Kharel, is one of the fastest-growing engineering firms in the country. History Of K&A

2016

K&A is established with a vision to transform the power industry. As a growing startup, the company operates under the motto " Big Firm Abilities...Small Firm Agility".

2017

Client work begins. The firm grows from 2 to 15 employees and moves into its headquarters in White Plains, NY. Achieves national certification as a Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE).

2018

K&A grows to 35 employees, revenue increases by 400%, and profitability nearly doubles.

2019

K&A initiates key investments in technology and administrative support, diversifies its client portfolio, and expands throughout the Northeast Region.
 
A new engineering operation is established in Kathmandu, Nepal, providing an option for the growing client roster to experience the same quality work at a lower cost and quicker service.

2020

K&A establishes a foothold in the Distribution Energy Resources Studies market and begins building its Mid-Atlantic Region operations.
 
Invests in an Operations team to create scalable support and enable growth.
 
K&A Leadership team undertakes a year-long exercise to build a culture reflective of how the company wants to operate in the future.

2021

The company positions itself for explosive growth and forecasts a 200% growth in revenue. Employee count crosses 250.

2022

K&A sees substantial growth in revenue (33%), employment numbers (46% or 116 new employees), and its contribution to K&A Cares (38%).
 
Acquires 14 new clients and employs 367 staff by year-end.

2023

K&A gains brand recognition nationally and expands its client base.
 
Launches its Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Divison.
 
Wins several prestigious awards, including PSEG LI's Supplier Diversity Award, and earns spots on the Inc. 5000 and Fortune 500 lists, recognizing K&A as one of America's fastest-growing private companies.

Early on, he set forth the company's motto as, "Big Firm Abilities... Small Firm Agility." To Purna, it was imperative to run a lean startup in its infancy, which resulted in K&A's early success - and continues today!

Client work began quickly and in 2017 and the firm grew from 2 to 15 employees and moved into its headquarters in White Plains, NY while becoming certified nationally as a Minority Owned Business Enterprise (MBE).
